Vice President H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has urged Ghanaians to put aside blame and political point-scoring during the nation’s three days of mourning for the eight victims of last week’s military helicopter crash.
Speaking at a memorial event, she stressed that this was not the time for “distasteful bloating over the misfortune for postulation,” but rather a moment for sober reflection and commitment to preventing similar tragedies.
“This is the time to wish our colleagues who have perished in the line of duty peaceful rest,” she said. “It is the time to renew our pledge to work in ways that truly advance our country, as our colleagues have tried to do.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also questioned the “unhealthy barriers we consciously continue to build and maintain,” warning that such divisions come at a high cost to national unity.
The Vice President’s remarks come as the country mourns two Cabinet ministers and six others killed in the Ashanti Region tragedy.
