The Western North Regional Police Command has launched a rigorous enforcement operation targeting unlicensed tricycles and motorcycles popularly known as “okada” in a bid to enhance road safety and reduce traffic violations across the region.
Regional Commander DCOP Dr. Francis Kwame Tsidi leads the operation, which began on May 28, 2025.
It focuses on apprehending riders operating without valid licenses, using unregistered vehicles, or engaging in reckless driving practices.
In the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, several offenders have already been arrested and prosecuted. The District Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Eric Baah Boateng, sentenced the culprits to seven days in prison with hard labor.
Fines were also imposed, with a stern warning that failure to pay would attract a default sentence of 90 days’ imprisonment with hard labor.
This crackdown forms part of a broader strategy to promote road safety and prevent avoidable accidents often caused by non-compliant riders.
Authorities believe that swift judicial action and visible enforcement will serve as a strong deterrent to others.
“The safety of the public is our priority, and this initiative will be sustained to ensure sanity on our roads,” said DCOP Dr. Tsidi.
The Regional Police Command is appealing to the public to support the initiative by complying with road traffic regulations and reporting violations.
Similar enforcement operations are expected to be rolled out in other parts of the Western North Region as authorities intensify efforts to improve road safety.
