WNR: Two Chinese, two Ghanaians arrested for illegal mining in forest reserve

The Rapid Response Team of the Forestry Commission and the Ghana Police Service have cracked down on illegal mining operations in the Tano-Anwia Forest Reserve in the Aowin Municipality, arresting two Chinese nationals and two Ghanaians for their involvement.

The operation was done on Thursday, March 20 following a tip off.

During the raid, authorities seized two excavators and a pickup vehicle, which were being used for illegal mining activities otherwise known as galamsey.

The suspects have been taken into police custody, pending investigations into their activities.

The Government has intensified the fight against galamsey in a bid to restore the country’s River bodies and forest reserves.

A similar operation was carried in the New Edubiase area of the Ashanti Region where about seven excavators were seized by Government taskforce.
