Ejisu by-election is underway to elect John Kumah’s successor

The  Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced by-election in Ejisu in the Ashanti Region  today to elect a member of parliament, following the death of the Member of Parliament, Dr. John Kumah on March 7, 2024.

Six candidates, including three independent candidates, are vying for the vacant seat.

The candidates are  Esther Osei (CPP), Kwabena Boateng (NPP), Beatrice Boakye (LPG) Kwabena Owusu Aduomi who is a former MP for the area is contesting as an independent candidate just as Gabriel Agyemang Joseph and Attakorah Joseph.

The biggest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), however pulled out of the election a some days ago.

The General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said the party would rather focus on preparations for the parliamentary seat during the December 7 polls.

The race today is thought to be between the New Patriotic Party’s Kwabena Boateng and former MP Kwabena Owusu Aduomi.

Campaigns ended on Monday, while the Electoral Commission (EC) indicated that it is ready to conduct the by-election, having dispatched all required electoral materials.

Ahead of the election, NPP’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, expressed strong confidence in the party’s chances, predicting a clear victory by a significant margin.
