12,000 community assistants to be recruited under YEA–Police Service agreement

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA), in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has initiated a nationwide recruitment drive to enlist 15,000 unemployed Ghanaian youth as Community Protection Assistants (CPAs).

This initiative aims to bolster community policing efforts and provide employment opportunities for the youth.

The recruitment process commenced with a national physical examination exercise across all YEA district offices to shortlist the first batch of 5,000 applicants.

These candidates underwent assessments of their physical fitness and other eligibility criteria.

The selected individuals are to undergo a mandatory three-week intensive training program conducted by the Ghana Police Service at various Police Training Colleges nationwide.

The training curriculum for CPAs includes modules on Community Policing, Traffic Management, Client Care, Criminal Law and Procedure, Criminal Investigation, Preservation of Evidence, Human Rights, Basic Officer Skills, Public Order Management, Crime Prevention Methods, and Ethics and Code of Conduct for Law Enforcement Officials.

Upon successful completion of the training, CPAs will be deployed to assist the police in maintaining law and order within communities, enhancing public safety, and supporting crime prevention initiatives.

This program is part of the government’s broader strategy to address youth unemployment and strengthen community security across the country.
