As Ghana prepares to mark the 13th anniversary of the passing of former President John Evans Atta Mills, citizens are being called upon to reflect on the enduring values that shaped his life and leadership.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Mr. Alex Segbefia, Chairman of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, urged Ghanaians to recommit to the principles the late president embodied humility, discipline, integrity, excellence, and compassion.
Mr. Segbefia emphasized that the Memorial Heritage remains committed to preserving, promoting, and projecting the legacy of the man fondly remembered as “Asomdwehene” the king of peace.
Also addressing the media, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe, assured the public that this year’s commemoration will reflect the depth and dignity of Prof. Mills’ legacy.
The 13th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture for the late President John Evans Atta Mills will take place on 22nd July 2025 at the Ohene Kofi Konadu Auditorium, University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
Themed “Atta Mills: A Case Study for the Fourth Republic,” the event will feature Mrs. Charlotte Osei, former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, as the keynote speaker.
Hon. Julius Debrah, former Chief of Staff, will serve as chairperson.
A wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service for the late President John Evans Atta Mills will be held on 24th July 2025 at 9:00 AM at Asomdwee Park, his final resting place.
This event marks the 13th anniversary of his passing and forms part of a broader commemoration of his legacy.
The Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament is scheduled for 26th July 2025 at 7:30 AM at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.
