Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served a note of caution to the President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo to desist from the malicious attempt at changing the country’s history.
According to John Mahama, Ghanaians are fed up with such self seeking parochial interests that continue to polarize the nation.
“I will restore July 1st as Ghana’s Republic Day, a day used to recognize our Senior citizens when the NDC wins the next elections.” – Mr Mahama who was responding to comments made by the President to mark August 4, as Founders’ Day said historical facts are clear that Osagyefp Dr Kwame Nkrumah, is the Founder of Ghana and any attempt to change that all fail.
Addressing a mini-durbar at Yarigabiisi Park in the Bolga East constituency of the Upper East Region Mr. Mahama described as surprising Nana Akufo Addo attempt to give the credit to the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) whose leaders the.became an obstacle to Ghana’s struggle for independence
“Even if we say many people fought for independence you cannot say (UGCC) was part because they were an obstacle to independence and eventually when the motion of destiny was passed these were the same people who walked out of Parliament and so today you can’t come and rewrite our history”
John Mahama said Ghanaians will resist that attempt to change the country ‘s history.
“One of the things this government wants to do is to rewrite our history and we shall not allow them to rewrite our history. The President said he doesn’t accept that one person can be the founder of a nation. Yes, founding a nation takes many people but there is always that one critical one person whose sacrifice and effort is what leads to the objective and the attainment every body is looking for” he noted
Mr. Mahama further stated that nobody can say Nkrumah was not the catalyst in Ghana’s independence struggle.
“If you ask Ghanaians who is the founder of Ghana, majority of Ghanaians will tell you it’s Osagyefo Dr kwame Nkrumah because it was him who gave that critical spark to the struggle for independence ”
He has since served notice the next NDC administration will restore the Founder’s as well as the Republic Day which is July 1.
