The Wenchi Traditional Council has expressed utter disappointment in the Akufo Addo -Bawumia led government for denying them much needed development projects over the past seven years
The Council is even more hurt that ongoing road and other infrastructure projects some of which were nearing completion are now in a sorry state after they were abandoned since the NPP took over from the Mahama administration.
Speaking at a mini durbar of Chiefs and People of Wenchi during a campaign tour of the Bono region by former President on Sunday , September 8, 2024, Osagyefo Ampem Annye Amoapong Tabrako III, Wenchi Manhene said what is evening more surprising that, appeals for the establishment of a Cashew processing factory under the One District One Factory programme was turned down.
“It is a very sad situation to speak of that Wenchi is neglected to this magnitude. Look at our roads, we have not have our share of the One District One Factory policy even though we are though largest producer of cashew. At least a cashew processing factory would have been better ” he lamented.
The Wenchi Manhene was particularly worried about the youth who have taken up deviant behaviors due to unemployment.
“We are starving here in Wenchi, the youth have resorted to social vices due to high levels of unemployment” he bemoaned
He used the ocassion to appeal to John Mahama to consider giving the people of Wenchi their fair share of the national cake in his next administration when he wins the December 7 polls.
“We know your track record in terms of development of the nation in health, education amongst others. We plead that you turn your eyes on ours and build for us at least a cashew processing factory” he pleaded.
The Sunyani -Wenchi road, Boadu- Chiraa road, Wenchi – Nsakaw , Nsakaw – Badu road amongst others remain in a bad shape.
The development comes as a suprise to many indigenes especially because Wenchi is the hometown of one of the founding members of the NPP, Dr Lofi Aberga Busia.
They see Wenchi continues as key to the historical background of the Dankwah Dombo Busiah Tradition and cannot apprehend at the President has development his hometown but abandoned Wenchi, the hometown of his fathers close ally Dr K A Busia
Political analysts say the decision to neglect Wenchi is solely because the people rejected NPP’s Parkiamentary candidate, Kojo Frimpong, a close ally of inner circle of the Akufo Addo Bawumia government.
Meanwhile Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress John Mahama has assured of a holistic development of the country devoid of party affiliation
“Whenever the NDC is in power, we spread development to every part of the country irrespective of who voted for us. We shall continue in the same manner when we come back to power” he assured.
