Ministry of education to roll out subject-specific AI apps in SHS from October 2025

The Ministry of Education has announced that a set of subject-specific Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications will be deployed in all Senior High Schools (SHSs) across Ghana beginning in October 2025, to support delivery of the new SHS curriculum and improve learning outcomes.

Ghana’s education sector is rolling out new AI-powered applications to support over 68,000 teachers in lesson planning, assessment, and classroom delivery, with the tools expected to reach more than 1.4 million senior high school students nationwide.

Built from Ghana’s own curriculum resources, including teacher manuals, learner guides, and assessment frameworks, the apps are designed with both online and offline functionality to ensure accessibility even in rural areas.

The rollout is being piloted across all 712 SHSs through weekly Professional Learning Community sessions, where teachers test the tools and provide feedback.

NaCCA has set a four-phase testing process covering technical accuracy, educational quality, user experience, and regional readiness, while 7,800 facilitators are being trained to support implementation.

The initiative is a collaboration among GES, NaCCA, NTC, NaSIA, and CENDLOS, with additional backing from Playlab AI, T-TEL, and the Mastercard Foundation. The Ministry has stressed that the apps are intended to complement, not replace, teacher expertise, and safeguards are in place to ensure alignment with Ghana’s cultural values and equity in access.
