The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South, Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi, has pledged to provide enhanced logistics and improved working conditions for healthcare workers to strengthen healthcare delivery in the municipality.
The MCE made the commitment during a half-year performance review meeting with the Municipal Health Directorate, led by the Municipal Health Director, Mr. Evans Attivor.
The meeting focused on assessing the current state of healthcare delivery, identifying challenges, and exploring measures to improve health services within the municipality.
Speaking to XYZ News correspondent Ibrahim Nsor, Hon. Joseph Awal Antwi acknowledged that the municipality had over the years faced challenges, including a shortage of healthcare professionals and inadequate health facilities, particularly in rural communities.
He, however, noted that the assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Kini, had made significant progress in addressing these challenges.
According to him, several Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds have been completed in communities such as Vome, Kachiebi, Ofosu, Alokpacha, and Obanda, with another nearing completion at Jumbo No. 1.
He added that plans are also underway to construct a new CHPS compound with residential accommodation at Kojoheneba to improve access to healthcare services.
Hon. Antwi stressed the commitment of
the assembly and the Member of Parliament to prioritising the health sector, assuring healthcare workers of increased motivation, improved logistics, and a better working environment.
“We are doing our utmost to provide all the essential logistics required to improve healthcare delivery in the municipality,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Health Director, Mr. Evans Attivor, highlighted some of the challenges affecting healthcare delivery, particularly during periods of unrest in the municipality, which resulted in some health workers leaving the area.
He commended the MCE for his intervention in restoring peace, which enabled the health workers to return and continue serving residents.
Mr. Attivor appealed to the Minister of Health, Mr. Mintah Akandoh, to expedite the posting of additional professional health workers to the municipality.
He indicated that the half-year performance review showed improvements in professionalism and service delivery but stressed the need for more logistics and the renovation of some CHPS compounds and healthcare facilities to further enhance healthcare services.
