The Government of Ghana has declined a GH¢20 million donation reportedly offered by MTN Ghana to support Ghanaian victims of recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government appreciates the offer but says it has already made adequate financial provisions for the ongoing evacuation and reintegration of affected Ghanaians.
The Ministry says the government’s position was previously communicated directly to the MTN Board Chair and CEO during a call with Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on August 14, 2026.
Government says it will continue to provide humanitarian evacuation and reintegration support to Ghanaians brought back from South Africa.
It also promises to publish a comprehensive account of the total cost of the evacuations once the exercise is concluded.
The Ministry further assured international businesses operating in Ghana that government remains committed to creating a favourable business environment, stressing that the welfare of Ghanaians remains its utmost priority.
