Mahama inaugurates 5-Member Bawku Revitalization fund board

President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a 5-member Bawku revitalization fund board. The board is chaired by Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Other members are Member of parliament for Bawku Central and Local Government Minister, Mahama Ayariga, His Royal Majesty Cletus Abugri, Chief of Timpane, Upper East Regional Minister, Akamgure Donatus Atanga, and Member of Parliament for Garu, Thomas Anaba Winsome.

You will recall that President John Mahama after receiving the Otumfuo Mediation Committee in December last year, announced that it was time for the guns to be silenced in Bawku and issue of Bawku be resolved through the lawful process, upholding Ghana’s Constitution and our laws.

President Mahama subsequently  announced an allocation of GHs 1 billion for the reconstruction of infrastructure and other amenities to restore the once vibrant and booming town to its glory days.

Speaking at the inauguration of the board to over the revitalization on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, President announced the availability of the fund and the subsequent disbursement.

“The allocation for the Bawku Revitalization Fund has now been made, and it is GH¢1 billion. With safety and security prevailing in Bawku and the surrounding areas, this is the time to begin the implementation of the Revitalization Fund” he indicated.

The President was particularly elated as a result of the silence of the guns and the restoration of the peace in the area.

“I am happy to receive the reports that we no longer hear gunshots at night and that impunity has abated. We want Bawku to recapture its former glory as a major commercial centre in Ghana” President Mahama said.

President Mahama who expressed confidence in the committee said all district in the Bawku area must benefit from the Revitalization Fund.

“I have absolute confidence in the membership of the committee, and I know that they will handle this assignment with the usual integrity and efficiency that they have demonstrated in public service over the years” he intimated.

On his part, His Royal Majesty Cletus Abugri, Chief of Timpane who conveyed good will message on behalf of the Bawku Naaba and the committee stated that they are committed to peace and will ensure the swift restoration of Bawku.
