The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has emphasised the need for greater collaboration between motorbike riders and the necessary authorities to foster road safety for all road users.
The IGP made the recommendation when he engaged members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the leadership of the Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG) to discuss their concerns in relation to their daily activities.
The engagement also focused on strengthening collaboration between the riders and the Ghana Police Service.
The IGP advised the riders to prioritise road safety by ensuring that their members receive proper training in safe riding practices and comply with road traffic regulations.
He also encouraged the Association to regularly educate its members on responsible riding to help prevent road crashes and promote safer road use.
He further urged the riders to identify themselves, ensure that their members are duly registered, and comply with licensing and motorbike registration requirements.
The President of the Okada Riders Association of Ghana (ORAG), Mr. Michael Kofi Owusu, expressed the Association’s willingness to work with the Police Service to improve their operations and support efforts to promote safety and reduce crime.
The IGP assured the riders that the Police Administration will continue to engage them and address their concerns to improve cooperation between the two sides.
