Adwoa Safo urges family unity, backs brother as Kristo Asafo Church head

Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament and daughter of the late Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, has publicly appealed for unity within the family while giving her backing to her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo (popularly called Akofena or Kwadwo Safo Akofena), as the new head of the Kantanka family and the Kristo Asafo Church.

In a formal statement released on Thursday, 8 October 2026, she explained that she had deliberately chosen reconciliation rooted in love, mutual respect and the unbreakable ties of family. Honouring what she described as their father’s wishes, she formally recognised and accepted her brother as Leader of both the Kantanka Family and the Kristo Asafo Church. She stressed that he enjoys her complete support and that she stands ready to collaborate with him in promoting their late father’s vision and legacy.

Adwoa Safo called on relatives and church members to set aside the differences, misunderstandings and grievances that surfaced after their father’s death in September 2025. She portrayed his legacy as a shared inheritance belonging to all his children rather than the duty of any one person. She further encouraged members of the Kristo Asafo Church, the broader Kantanka family and everyone linked to her father’s work during his lifetime to honour the family’s renewed unity and to welcome a fresh era of reconciliation, brotherhood and common purpose.

The declaration follows several months of reported friction and disputes over succession and leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission after Apostle Kwadwo Safo’s passing. Earlier in 2026, family statements had dismissed Akofena’s claims to leadership in favour of the succession arrangements established by the founder; public disagreements had also arisen, including over funeral arrangements and an alleged shooting incident involving Adwoa Safo.
