The Eastern Regional Youth Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Etornam Nyarko, has admonished delegates of the party to vote for Basiera Saankara to lead the national youth wing of the Congress.
The national executives elections of the NDC is slated for December 2026.
Saankara has already submitted his nomination forms to the Election Committee of the party.
As campaign activities heat up, Richard Nyarko, who is popularly known as ‘Blibo’, believes Saankara is well experienced to lead the youth of the NDC as the party expects to retain power beyond 2028.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, Nyarko indicated that Saankara’s track record as a youth leader in the party over the past decade depicts commitment to the welfare of young people.
“He understands the language of the youth,” Nyarko said while urging the youth to “look outside the box” and elect Sankara to lead the party’s youth to victory in 2028.
Richard Nyarko’s endorsement comes at a time some young party supporters of the NDC have expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of adequate jobs for them since the party assumed power in 2025.
Nyarko is of the firm believe that Saankara will be the bridge between the government and the youth as far as job creation is concerned.
The battle for the NDC National Youth Organiser position is between the Board Chairman of the National Service Authority (NSA), Emmanuel Okai Mintah, and Basiera Saankara, a former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa West and immediate past NDC Youth Organiser for the Upper West Region.
Saankara formally declared his intention to contest for the position of National Youth Organiser in September this year, following months of consultations from mentors and party faithful.
Saankara said his over two decades of service to the NDC had prepared him to lead the party’s youth wing at the national level.
His political trajectory began in the Wa West Constituency and progressed to the Regional Secretariat. His roles have included Assembly Member, Presiding Member, District Chief Executive, and Regional Youth Organiser, as well as Deputy Regional Organiser and Constituency Youth Organiser for Wa West.
