TraffiTech-GH: Road signs showing where speed cameras are located to be erected in November

The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has announced that warning signs on speed limits and where speed cameras are located on roads will be erected this week, beginning November 9 in areas where such signs are non-existent, but Traffitech-GH cameras have been deployed.

The Director of Education, Research and Training at the MTTD, ACP Alexander Kwaku Obeng who made this known said the move follows feedback from the public in relation to the deployment of Traffitech-GH.

ACP Obeng said on Joy News’ Newsfile on Saturday that the signs would help inform motorists of areas where the Police were conducting camera-assisted traffic enforcement.

He said the signs are being erected to help address concerns about the visibility of enforcement operations.

“Very soon in the course of this week, you will see notices of camera and speed signs indicating where we are patrolling with our in-vehicle cameras,” he said.

This comes after public concerns about inadequate road signs and uncertainty over the locations where the Police are deploying cameras to detect traffic offences.

President John Mahama recently suggested that camera and speed limits signs be erected on roads to ensure transparency.

But ACP Obeng said the Police had taken public concerns into account and would address areas requiring calibration.

He added that preliminary data available to the Police showed a sudden reduction in road crashes across the country.

The TraffiTech-GH system uses fixed and mobile cameras, including equipment mounted in police vehicles, to capture traffic offences.

The first phase of enforcement, which began on November 1, 2026, targets over speeding.
