ACCPA launches inaugural Ghana–China media fellowship with 15 journalists

The Africa–China Centre for Policy & Advisory (ACCPA) has officially launched its first-ever Ghana–China Media Fellowship, welcoming 15 Ghanaian journalists to a fully funded, in‑person training program set to run from June 7 to August 23, 2025.

Speaking at the launch, Paul Frimpong, Executive Director of ACCPA and lead facilitator of the first session, remarked, “This fellowship marks a new chapter in media diplomacy. Our goal is to empower Ghanaian journalists with the tools, knowledge, and context to tell more informed stories about China and its engagement with Africa.”

Sylvia Sinkari, Projects Lead and Research Fellow at ACCPA, also emphasized the program’s relevance: “With China playing an increasingly significant role in Africa, building the media’s capacity to report accurately and critically is not just timely, but essential.”

Journalists will also gain practical Mandarin skills, participate in field visits to Chinese companies in Ghana, and engage in high-level networking with diplomats and experts.

Fully funded by ACCPA, the program covers all costs including travel, tuition, materials, and accommodation.

This competitive cohort comprises 15 journalists and content creators across print, broadcast, and digital platforms, selected for their interest and experience in international affairs, economic development, and diplomatic reporting.

Applications were accepted until May 21, 2025, and the fellowship began on June 7.

Fellows will graduate from the program on August 23, after which ACCPA plans continued support through a network of alumni and ongoing capacity-building events.

The ACCPA’s Ghana–China Media Fellowship represents a major stride in media development, strengthening Ghanaian reporting on a key global partnership.

With immersive training, language skills, and real-world exposure, this first cohort of 15 journalists is well-positioned to deliver nuanced, informed coverage on Africa–China affairs.

The Ghana-China Media Fellowship will run each Saturday for the next twelve weeks, offering participants a unique opportunity to bridge knowledge gaps and foster cross-cultural understanding.
