The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, has declared he will resign from Parliament if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) fails to win the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
Speaking at the one-week memorial of the late Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, Mr. Baafi insisted the stakes are too high for the governing party to contemplate defeat.
“If the NPP loses this Akwatia by-election, I will resign as MP. Mark my words!” he vowed.
He also took aim at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of failing Ghanaians with unfulfilled campaign promises from the 2024 general elections.
He argued that the Akwatia contest will serve as a test of public confidence in both parties.
The by-election was triggered by the sudden passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi, who represented Akwatia on the NPP ticket.
His death has set the stage for a high-stakes political showdown that could shape momentum ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The NPP has nominated Solomon Kwame Asumadu as its candidate, while the NDC is fielding Bernard Bediako.
Both parties have intensified their campaigns, with political analysts predicting a fiercely contested race on September 2.
