Alhaji Seidu Agongo has assured the journalist assaulted by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service of the full support of Class Media Group, including access to the best possible medical care and legal assistance, as efforts are made to ensure that justice is served.
The businessman and media owner expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as a serious breach of discipline and a betrayal of the Fire Service’s core mandate to protect lives and property.
Reacting to widely circulated videos of the attack, Alhaji Agongo condemned the actions of the uniformed personnel, noting that the footage, showing firefighters assaulting an unarmed journalist, was disturbing and unacceptable in a democratic society that upholds the rule of law and press freedom.
“The conduct displayed in the videos is despicable and has no place in a country that prides itself on professionalism, accountability, and respect for fundamental rights,” he stated.
Alhaji Agongo reaffirmed Class Media Group’s commitment to standing firmly with its journalist, stressing that the matter would be pursued to its logical conclusion to ensure that all those responsible are held accountable.
He also commended fellow media organisations and well-meaning Ghanaians for speaking out against the incident, describing the public response as vital in defending media freedom.
While expressing disappointment at what he described as the silence from the leadership of the Ghana National Fire Service, Alhaji Agongo said he remains confident that the Ghana Police Service will act in line with its constitutional mandate.
He therefore called on the Police Service to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation and to publicly bring the perpetrators to book.
“This incident is not just about one journalist. It is about safeguarding the rights of all citizens and protecting Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of press freedom,” he added.
