Hundreds of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters defied a heavy downpour in Amenfi East to welcome Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the party’s Vice presidential candidate, at Bodie on Wednesday.
The atmosphere more of like a festive occasion as excited party supporters cheered, danced to NDC campaign songs amidst blowing of vuvuzelas as her delegation arrived.
The gathering, including Chiefs, opinion leaders, despite the downpour were obviously eager to show their support and appreciation to the NDC, for most of the development initiatives in the Amenfi area.
The iconic umbrella, the NDC logo, served as a symbolic shield for supporters who stood in the rain for hours.
Some of those who spoke to XYZ Broadcasting reporter Akora Kofi Darko, who is travelling with the NDC Running Mate described her visit to their community as an opportunity to engage her directly on some of the party manifesto promises intended to create opportunities for economic development.
“We see this rain as a sign of hope. Its a blessing, a positive sign for the NDC’s victory in 2024 and to retain the Amenfi East seat” – one of the supporters happily retorted.
In her address, Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the traditional authorities and people of Amenfi East for their unflinching support for the NDC
She outlined the NDC’s ambitious plans, which include launching a 24-hour economy program and establishing a women’s development bank to provide accessible loans to women.
She stated that such initiatives would benefit many Ghanaians, including those in Amenfi East, but stressed that their success hinges on voting for NDC flagbearer John Mahama in the upcoming elections.
Prof. Naana Opoku Ayemang was particularly touched to see traditional leaders ready to wait for her arrival, despite the heavy rains.
NDC Western Regional Chairman Nana Kojo Toku and the Amenfi East Constituency chairman who took turns to address the mini durbar urged them to expand their outreach programmes to win more souls for the party.
