On June 1, 2025, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, officially commissioned the Despite Automobile Museum in East Legon, Accra.
This establishment marks Ghana’s first world-class automobile museum and is the third of its kind on the African continent.
The museum is the brainchild of renowned businessman Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, who realized a lifelong dream of creating a space to celebrate automotive history and innovation.
The grand opening was a star-studded affair, attended by a host of dignitaries and celebrities.
Notable attendees included former President John Agyekum Kufuor, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, entrepreneur Nana Kwame Bediako (also known as Cheddar), businessman Ibrahim Mahama, actress Jackie Appiah, and musician Sarkodie.
The museum boasts an impressive collection of over 20 classic and luxury vehicles, each reflecting Dr. Despite’s passion for automobiles. Among the showcased vehicles are the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, Bugatti La Voiture Noire, Bugatti Chiron, McLaren 720S Spider, Rolls-Royce Sweptail, and Tesla Cybertruck.
The Despite Automobile Museum is designed to offer visitors an immersive experience into the evolution of automotive engineering.
It serves as a cultural and educational hub, aiming to attract car enthusiasts, families, and tourists alike.
Dr. Despite’s initiative not only celebrates engineering marvels but also positions Ghana as a burgeoning center for cultural and automotive tourism.
