Bawumia has nothing better to offer; vote against him – Abraham Koomson to workers

The Secretary-General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has urged Ghanaian workers to reject the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The labour unionist argued that Dr. Bawumia, who has served as the head of the government’s Economic Management Team, has led Ghana’s economy into a ditch.

He said the NPP’s policies have been harmful to workers’ financial well-being.

Speaking on Ahotor FM, Mr. Koomson argued that Dr. Bawumia’s track record on economic issues makes him unfit to lead the country as president.

“The challenges Ghanaian workers face today can be traced to policies pushed by the Economic Management Team,” he remarked, stressing that workers must reflect on their struggles when they head to the polls on  December 7.

Abraham Koomson called on his fellow workers to “vote wisely,” particularly in response to what he described as widespread frustration with the current economic hardships.

He urged those struggling with unemployment to remain steadfast and use the ballot box as a way to voice their discontent, even if they are offered incentives to vote otherwise.

“If someone gives you money to vote, take it,” he advised, “but remember to vote with your conscience for a better future.”

In addition to rallying workers, Abraham Koomson also called on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to present strong leadership and prevent what he views as a potentially damaging outcome for workers should the NPP secure another term.

According to him, the impact of an NPP victory would have far-reaching negative consequences for both citizens and the labor force, emphasizing the need for a change to stabilize and improve Ghana’s economic landscape.

Mr. Koomson’s remarks highlight the growing discontent within Ghana’s labor sector as the 2024 election approaches, with workers increasingly vocal about the challenges they have endured under the current administration.
