CETAG withdraws all services as Gov’t freezes July salaries

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has withdrawn all its services in response to the government’s directive to freeze their July salaries.

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) on July 22, instructed the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to suspend the salaries of all striking CETAG members, except for the Principals, for July 2024.

In response to this directive, CETAG in a statement on Tuesday, July 23,  noted that it is suspending all of its services following the directive from the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw osei Adutwum.

CETAG said it has withdrawn all services include attendance at meetings and congregation ceremonies, the provision of academic counselling, and the supervision of students in their halls of residence.

“In an emergency meeting of the National Council held on 23rd July, council members unanimously resolved to withdraw all our services, including attendance at meetings, congregation ceremonies, the provision of academic counselling services, and the supervision of students in the halls of residence, with immediate effect until further notice,” the association stated.

The association noted that it had referred the illegal directive to freeze their July salaries to their lawyers for the necessary actions.

Meanwhile, the GTEC has insisted that the striking members of CETAG return to the classrooms while the government considers their concerns.
