Covenant Stars were crowned champions of the fifth Tariq Lamptey Foundation U-16 football tournament after defeating Take Hearts FC in the final at Prisons Astroturf, Roman Ridge.

In the first match, Covenant FC defeated Spotting FC 3-0.
In the second game, Take Hearts FC were down 2-0 to Amasaman Young Wise.
The third-place match was between Sporting FC and Take Hearts FC, which Sporting FC won by 7-0.
Lastly, the final game was a crucial 1-1 battle between Amasaman Young Wise and Covenant FC after 90 minutes, before Covenant FC won 4-3 on penalties.
The champions, Covenant FC, received 6,000 GHS, a trophy, footballs, boots, and drinks. The second-placed team, Take Hearts, also received a participation fee of 4,000 GHS, drinks, and other prizes.
The third-placed team, Sporting Club, was awarded 2,000 GHS for participation fees, and the fourth-placed team received the same amount.
Organized by Black Stars and Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey, the tournament aims to nurture young talent through football and education.
Four U-16 teams competed: Covenant Stars, runners-up Take Hearts, Sporting Club, and Young Wise.
Beneficiaries praised the tournament’s impact on developing young athletes.
Paul Dofoe Danlawyer, head coach of Sporting Club, commended Lamptey’s initiative:
“We are grateful to Tariq for unearthing talents. This platform helps young players embrace football globally and serves as a springboard for bigger opportunities.”
Covenant Stars’ head coach, Daniel Ansah, urged other footballers to follow Lamptey’s example:
“He’s doing well. Few big stars think about underprivileged players, so I commend him.”
Susan Akomeah, a member of the Tariq Lamptey Foundation and Lamptey’s grandmother, encouraged successful Ghanaian players, especially those in the diaspora, to support young talents:
“This tournament motivates young players. It makes Tariq happy to see them give their best. I urge others to help push these talents forward.”
