Election Watch Ghana has raised concerns over the recurring reruns of elections in parts of the country, particularly in the Kpandai Constituency, warning that the trend is placing unnecessary financial strain on taxpayers and undermining public confidence in the electoral system.
In a statement, the civil society group said the repeated reruns highlight persistent gaps in the management and administration of elections.
It stressed that the neutrality of electoral officers is essential to ensuring free, fair and credible polls.
Election Watch Ghana called on all key political actors in the Kpandai by-election, including the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to fully participate in the process.
The group noted that inclusive engagement from all eligible parties is vital for strengthening Ghana’s democratic governance.
The organisation also urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to demonstrate greater diligence and strictly adhere to electoral guidelines and protocols.
It further called on the Commission to enhance transparency, improve accountability, and address operational inefficiencies that have contributed to costly and avoidable reruns.
Election Watch Ghana said strengthened collaboration among citizens, political parties, and the EC is crucial for advancing credible elections, adding that reforms that prioritise integrity and public trust are essential for safeguarding the nation’s democracy.
