Unionised workers of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) are demanding the immediate removal of Director-General Professor Amin Alhassan, accusing him of mismanagement, financial impropriety, and neglect of staff welfare.
At a press conference in Accra, Divisional Union Chairman Sam Nat Kevor declared Professor Alhassan persona non grata, warning that his continued stay threatens the survival of the state broadcaster.
The workers claim that the Director-General’s contract expired in 2023 and that his salary has been suspended since March due to the absence of financial clearance, yet he remains in office. They argue that this undermines GBC’s integrity and accountability.
“GBC is in a dire state of collapse, and the longer he stays, the more damage is done,” Mr. Kevor said, alleging that management under Professor Alhassan has fostered a culture of intimidation, where staff who raise concerns are victimised through transfers, salary suspensions, or dismissals.
The union stressed that GBC, as a national asset, must be protected from further decline and urged government and stakeholders to intervene without delay.
“The survival of the state broadcaster is at stake. His removal cannot be delayed any longer,” the workers warned.
