GCB bank proposes direct payment solution for Ghanaian TikTok creators

GCB Bank has unveiled plans to become the official payment gateway for Ghanaian TikTok creators, offering a direct and transparent channel for earnings from the platform.

A delegation led by GCB’s Chief of Staff, Abraham Ferguson, met with Communications and Digital Technology Minister Samuel Nartey George and TikTok’s West Africa representative, Tokumbo Ibrahim, to discuss the proposal.

Ferguson said the bank’s infrastructure, already linked to Mastercard and Visa, could handle direct payouts onto cards, mobile money, or bank accounts, cutting out costly third-party intermediaries.

Minister George welcomed the initiative, describing it as a way to protect creators’ earnings and strengthen Ghana’s digital economy.

TikTok’s representative confirmed the platform would review the feasibility of the arrangement.

Ferguson noted that once approved, technical teams would be set up with regulators to formalise a payment framework and ensure secure cash-outs for creators.

If implemented, the move would mark a milestone for Ghana’s creative economy, ensuring local content producers reap greater financial rewards from their global audiences.
