Ghana and Morocco have agreed to take steps toward waiving visa requirements for all categories of travelers between the two nations.
This move aims to bolster diplomatic and economic relations. Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that the agreement would be presented to both parliaments for ratification in the coming weeks.
Following discussions with Moroccan Ambassador Imane Ouaadil, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized the commitment to deeper collaboration in key sectors such as agribusiness, tourism, and security.
Addressing Misinformation and Strengthening Educational Ties
The Moroccan Ambassador addressed concerns regarding recent social media reports alleging violence against Africans in Morocco.
She refuted claims of mass killings, clarifying that widely circulated footage was from a tragic border incident in June 2022, which resulted in 23 casualties, none of whom were Ghanaian.
In a major boost for educational cooperation, Morocco has doubled its annual scholarships for Ghanaian students from 90 to 180, starting this year.
Ghana’s Commitment to Global Diplomacy
Mr. Ablakwa also met with Russian Ambassador Sergei Berdnikov to discuss areas of bilateral cooperation. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to its longstanding foreign policy of positive neutrality and its role as a credible advocate for global peace.
These diplomatic engagements highlight Ghana’s proactive approach to strengthening international partnerships, promoting educational and economic opportunities, and addressing misinformation to protect its citizens abroad.
