Ghana gas empowers journalists through strategic media training in Takoradi

The Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas) has deepened its engagement with the media through a one-day training programme designed to strengthen public understanding of the gas sector.

Held at the Palms Hotel in Takoradi, the workshop was themed “Media’s Role in Shaping Perception. Overview of Ghana Gas Company Limited” and brought together journalists from across the Western Region.

The session was spearheaded by Ghana Gas’s Corporate Affairs Department.

Opening the programme, Judith Adjobah Blay, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, underscored the importance of accurate and informed journalism in shaping public opinion on the gas industry.

“Participants are now well-equipped with factual information to report responsibly about Ghana Gas. This empowerment enables the media to deliver accurate and impactful energy news,” she said.

She noted that Ghana Gas was established to commercialize gas at a time when Ghana lacked a policy on gas flaring, with its mandate covering gas gathering, processing, transportation, and marketing.

The training coincided with the company’s 10-day scheduled maintenance shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant.

CEO Adjobah Blay explained that the timing reflected the company’s commitment to transparency while maintaining operational integrity.

Solomon Daisie Gyenfie, Assistant Manager of Engineering and Maintenance, likened the exercise to a health check-up, calling it “an investment in the safety, reliability, and integrity of our processing plant.”

Speakers provided a detailed overview of Ghana’s gas operations, tracing the company’s growth since 2011 and the commissioning of critical facilities.

They emphasized the importance of community engagement, addressing challenges such as land acquisition, buffer zones, and the urgent need to tackle illegal mining near installations.

The discussions also highlighted Ghana Gas’s expanding role in the energy value chain, its participation in the Cash Waterfall Mechanism, and progress toward building a second Gas Processing Plant to meet the country’s increasing energy demand.

Closing the event, Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, Head of Corporate Affairs, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transparency and partnership with the media:

“We are dedicated to building a collaborative relationship with journalists. Together, we can tell the story of Ghana Gas in a way that supports national development.”

The Takoradi training marked a pivotal moment in Ghana Gas’s media strategy.

By equipping journalists with accurate information, the company reinforced its role as a responsible corporate citizen, while empowering the media to advance energy literacy and national development.
