Ghana has taken a bold step in the continental fight against cyber threats, with the commissioning of Africa’s largest and most advanced artificial intelligence (AI)-driven cybersecurity and digital forensics services centre in Accra.
The pioneering facility, spearheaded by local cybersecurity firm Virtual InfoSec Africa Limited (VIA) in partnership with leading global security information and event management (SIEM) company Exabeam, is set to transform how businesses and institutions across Africa respond to cyber threats.
Designed to enhance resilience in the face of growing digital threats, the centre uses advanced AI and machine learning capabilities to detect, analyse, and neutralise cyber incidents in real time.
It also offers digital forensics services to support investigations and threat attribution a critical need in an era of increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.
According to VIA, the centre will help businesses across the continent reduce their cybersecurity costs while significantly improving their threat detection and response capabilities.
“This marks a new era for cybersecurity in Africa,” said a VIA spokesperson. “We are not just adopting global standards; we are setting them.”
The facility’s launch is part of Ghana’s broader digital security agenda, which has seen the country rise to second place in Africa on the Global Cybersecurity Index, trailing only Mauritius.
It also reflects the growing demand for localized, high-impact cybersecurity solutions that are both scalable and tailored to the African context.
Cybersecurity experts say the centre will serve not only as a protection hub but also as a training ground for local talent, helping to close the cybersecurity skills gap in West Africa.
The centre is expected to support public and private sector organisations, from banks and telcos to government agencies and SMEs.
As cyber threats become more complex and persistent, Ghana’s leadership in launching a homegrown, AI-enhanced cyber defence hub is being hailed as a strategic step toward safeguarding national infrastructure and supporting digital transformation across the continent.
