GHS300 million national apprenticeship programme to launch August 12 – Opare Addo

Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has announced that the government’s flagship National Apprenticeship Programme will officially commence on August 12, 2025.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on Monday, the Minister said the initiative forms part of the administration’s broader strategy to tackle youth unemployment by equipping young people with relevant skills for economic independence.

“These initiatives reflect the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to create an environment where young people can thrive through entrepreneurship and technical training,” Mr. Opare Addo stated.

The GHS300 million programme, described as the largest apprenticeship drive in Ghana’s history, will offer monthly stipends to beneficiaries to support them throughout the training period.

In addition to the apprenticeship initiative, the Minister highlighted progress under the Adwumawura Programme, another flagship intervention targeting youth employment.

He disclosed that GHS110 million has been earmarked for Adwumawura, with the aim of developing a new generation of young entrepreneurs and job creators.

“These programmes will not only reduce unemployment but also create sustainable opportunities for our youth,” he added.

Mr. Opare Addo reaffirmed his Ministry’s commitment to delivering on President Mahama’s reset agenda, pledging to implement initiatives that ensure inclusive development and long-term economic empowerment for Ghana’s young people.
