GIHOC refutes media reports on 24-hour economy and alcohol imports

The management of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited has dismissed media reports claiming the company has abandoned the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative or called for a clampdown on alcohol imports.

In a statement issued on Thursday, GIHOC described the reports as “false, completely out of context, misleading and deceptive,” adding that they misrepresented remarks made during a meeting with Parliament’s Select Committee on Labour and Employment on October 15.

According to the company, its management only responded to specific questions on operational efficiency and ongoing measures to strengthen production.

At no point, it said, did the Acting Chief Executive Officer or any official make the statements attributed to them.

“GIHOC continues to support and align fully with the President’s 24-Hour Economy initiative,” the statement read. “The Company is actively pursuing measures to enhance production capacity, boost competitiveness, and make meaningful contributions toward the realization of this national policy objective.”

The distilleries firm further stressed that it welcomes healthy competition in the beverage industry and remains committed to regaining its market leadership “not by exclusion, but through innovation, efficiency, and quality.”

GIHOC urged the media to verify information from official sources before publication to avoid misleading the public and distorting institutional positions.

“We remain dedicated to transparency, professionalism, and partnership with all stakeholders, including the media, in advancing the collective goal of industrial growth and national development,” the company stated.
