The Ghana International Trade Commission (GITC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has collaborated to improve trade in the subregion, focusing on fair trade practices.
This follows a stakeholder engagement that took place when Ghana International Trade Commission , under the leadership of Executive Secretary Ms. Mavis Afia-Adjei Kwaah, visited the National AfCFTA Coordination Office to discuss potential areas of collaboration.
The engagement focused on aligning efforts to promote fair trade practices, enhance Ghana’s participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and protect local industries while leveraging opportunities within the continental market.
The GITC Boss expressed commitment to supporting the Coordinating Office with insights from its trade investigations and data analyses to inform policy decisions and strategic interventions under AfCFTA.
The AfCFTA National Coordinator welcomed the partnership and emphasized the importance of close collaboration to ensure Ghana maximizes the benefits of the continental agreement and strengthens its trade position across Africa.
This collaboration is expected to boost capacity building for MSMEs, improve data sharing, harmonize trade enforcement efforts, add value to local industries, and foster a competitive and resilient trading environment for Ghanaian businesses under AfCFTA.
The AfCFTA team also reaffirmed their support for GITC’s mandate in promoting fair trade and protecting Ghana’s economic interests.
