Krachi East MCE leads sanitation drive for cleaner communities

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi East, Hon. Safo Nketia, has led a municipality wide clean-up exercise aimed at enhancing sanitation, beautifying the environment, and improving public health in the Oti Regional capital, Dambai, and its surrounding communities.

The exercise forms part of a broader initiative to instill a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility among residents.

Addressing the media, including XYZ News and journalist Ibrahim Nsor, Hon. Safo Nketia emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment, noting that cleaner surroundings not only improve public health but also contribute to the attractiveness and economic potential of the municipality.

He appealed to residents to uphold high standards of hygiene, stressing that indiscriminate littering and the dumping of waste in gutters and rivers, particularly the Oti River pose serious health risks.

“Improper waste disposal has been linked to the spread of diseases such as typhoid, malaria, and cholera in our communities. We must take collective responsibility to change this narrative,” he said.

Hon. Safo Nketia further stated that the Mahama-led administration is committed to making sanitation a national priority.

He announced the introduction of monthly clean-up exercises in Krachi East, which are expected to become a key part of the municipality’s public health strategy.

“This is not a one-time activity,” he said. “We will continue to mobilize the community each month to ensure that Krachi East becomes one of the cleanest municipalities in Ghana. It is part of our commitment to improving the quality of life for our people.”

The MCE called on all stakeholders including traditional leaders, youth groups, and civil society to actively support the campaign, adding that a cleaner, healthier Krachi East is possible through unity and sustained action.
