The National Chairman of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on Ghanaians to recommit to the legacy of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings by practicing accountability, probity, and transparency in public life.
Speaking at the official 46th anniversary commemoration of the June 4 Uprising in Odumase‑Krobo, Asiedu Nketiah reminded supporters of Rawlings’s lifelong fight against corruption, nepotism, and economic mismanagement pillars that defined his governance ethos.
“The best way to honour the legacy of President Jerry John Rawlings is to preach his principles of probity and accountability and to make sure that this nation is not governed by people practising corruption, nepotism and the other bed fellows,” he emphasized.
He admonished the governing New Patriotic Party, accusing its leaders of engaging in corrupt practices, and affirmed that once in power, the NDC, then expected to be the “rescue mission” would root out graft wherever it exists, including within its own ranks:
“Wherever Ken Ofori‑Atta is hiding, we will find him by all means.
All former officials implicated in corruption will be compelled to face the law,” he stated in February.
Reiterating the June 4 narrative of social justice and moral governance, Asiedu Nketiah affirmed that under NDC stewardship, no public official regardless of political affiliation would escape accountability.
The party has vowed to enforce a hardline “reset agenda” to stamp out corruption nationwide.
Summary:
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to June 4 values, integrity, anti-corruption, and opposition to nepotism during recent remarks by Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
He emphasized that the party will legally pursue accountability for both past and current public officials, including former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Stressing the need for institutional integrity, Nketiah underscored that the anti-corruption drive must be bipartisan and encompass actors across the political spectrum.
The NDC’s renewed emphasis on anti-corruption and June 4 values sharpens its political identity ahead of future elections, positioning the party as committed to integrity and justice.
By invoking the legacy of former President Jerry John Rawlings, the message seeks to galvanize grassroots supporters and frame accountability as a national obligation.
Notably, the party’s pledge to pursue both past and present officials across party lines signals a move toward non-partisan enforcement and stronger institutional credibility in Ghana’s fight against corruption.
