President John Mahama has assured that he will convey the grievance of the three Nations forming the Alliance of Sehalian States to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)
President John Mahama who has had separate meetings with the leaders of Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso says though the task will be arduous efforts to rejoin, it will not be off the discussion table.
President Mahama who was engaging his Burkinabe counterpart Captain Ibrahim Traoré on Monday,March 10,2025 promised to lead the mediation efforts
“It’s an issue of break of trust among the leadership and it will take time to rebuild it but we have to work on it so that we restore trust and confidence with each other so that we can work together. So that we can work together if even we are not part of the same regional body”
The two leaders also discussed issued of security and the fight against terrorism, trade, electric power export to Burkina among others issues of mutual interest
President Mahama is accompanied by Presidential Envoy to the Sahelian States, Col. Larry Gbevlo Lartey, Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Calistus Mahama, Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) Stan Dogbe, Senior Presidential Advisor and Aide to the President, Joyce Mogtari and Deputy Spokesperson to the President, Shamima Muslim.
The President has already been to Mali and Niger over the weekend, as part of his Good Neighbourliness visits to foster good relations, engage his counterparts on improving regional security, trade, and economic integration and the need to improve relations between ECOWAS and the newly formed Alliance of Sahel States
