Mahama deserves commendation for his 120-day performance – Dr Sammy Ayeh

Dr. Sammy Ayeh, a government spokesperson at the Presidential communication’s office has urged Ghanaians to rally behind President John Dramani Mahama to fix the country’s mess he met in office.

Dr. Ayeh, who was discussing the performance of the President in the last 120-days since assuming office on Dwaboase on TV XYZ emphasised that Mr. Mahama had worked so hard to fulfill his social contract with Ghanaians, stressing that his commitment to Ghanaians deserve to be commended.

The completion of Mahama’s first 120-day term in office has been met with commendations from some political and civil society activists, although the Minority in Parliament believes the new government has not done anything extraordinary.

Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin accused the government of fostering division, engaging in political victimisation, and failing to implement its flagship 24-hour economy policy.

“For me, it’s 120 days of disappointment and regret. The NDC in 120 days has created a two Ghana, a Ghana for them and their party and a Ghana for the others they consider enemies,” he stated.

But Sammy Ayeh in his reaction disagreed with the Minority, saying “I don’t expect the NPP to be enthused about the performance of President John Mahama who has shown commitment to resetting the country for the people of Ghana.”

“President Mahama has performed incredibly well; his social contract to the Ghanaian people have been met and people are happy about how he has been consistent with providing solutions for age-long challenges he inherited. President Mahama promised to govern with a lean government that will be efficient in the history of the Fourth Republic and he has delivered. As we speak, the promise of governing with only 60 ministers has been delivered and, in fact, he is working with 57 ministers and we are seeing their effectiveness,” Dr Ayeh told host Piesie Okrah in Akan.

The government spokesman went on to mention some of the promises of Mr Mahama that were meant to be fulfilled under 120-days in office including the launch of a programme that will train one million coders, the launch of a national apprenticeship programme, Edwumawura which seeks to support Small businesses, provision of funding for the establishment of the Women Development Bank, scrapping of the ‘nuisance’ E-levy, and betting taxes.

“President needs to be commended because all what he promised to achieve in his first 120-days in office have been fulfilled and all Ghanaians can see and feel it,” he noted while he praised the President for the national sanitary pad distribution programme for students as well as launching the code of conduct for his appointees.

To him, the code of conduct which bars Ministers from directly or indirectly buying government property (vehicles, land, shares, etc.) will set the tone for good governance experience and accountability.

Critics Praise Mahama

Even before President delivers a national address today, Wednesday, May 7, 2025, providing a comprehensive update on the achievements under his 120-day social contract with the people of Ghana, he has received plaudits from some of his fierce critics.

Prof. Stephen Adei

Prof Stephen Adei, a former Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has congratulated President John Mahama on the completion of his first 120-day term in office, saying the president has performed well.

Speaking to JoyNews, Prof Adei highlighted that, from an objective perspective, the president has made commendable progress during the short period.

“As much as I congratulate John on his 120-day, and anybody who is objective would say he has done very well, we hope he will be able to continue and sustain it, make corrections of any lapses, and deliver the Ghana we want,” he stated.
