Mahama orders withdrawal of bill to scrap office of Special Prosecutor

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Majority Leader and Majority Chief Whip in Parliament to withdraw a Private Member’s Bill seeking to repeal the law establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The request follows the President’s renewed public backing for the OSP during a meeting with the National Peace Council on Wednesday, where he described the institution as essential to Ghana’s anti-corruption architecture.

According to a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, the President reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the OSP rather than dismantling it.

Mahama also urged the OSP to intensify its work to rebuild public trust and aggressively pursue corruption cases in line with its founding mandate.

The statement underscored government’s position that the OSP remains a critical tool in confronting corruption and must be empowered to deliver on its objectives.
