Mangoase residents warn against politicizing road project: let progress speak for itself

Residents of Magoase in the Akuapem North District have issued a firm call to keep politics out of the ongoing road construction project, warning that attempts to hijack the development for political gain could backfire and derail the community’s progress.

The warning comes as the much-anticipated road project nears completion, bringing hope to residents long burdened by poor road conditions.

Haija Rabiatu Yakubu Agyako, Woman Organiser for RC Primary in Magoase and a former NDC Women’s Organiser in New York, expressed gratitude for the project but condemned what she described as “cheap political point scoring.”

“We are grateful to the government for the new road, it’s a game-changer for our lives and local economy,” she said.

“But we will not sit by while some try to politicize this development. The road belongs to the people, not to any party.”

Malam Yussif, Chairman of RC Primary in Magoase, echoed the concern, cautioning that such divisive tactics could ultimately stall or even jeopardize the project.

“We urge everyone to put the community first. Let’s complete the road and then talk politics if we must,” he stressed.

Local drivers and motorcyclists also weighed in, saying the road is already transforming daily life, reducing travel time, lowering vehicle maintenance costs, and improving access to markets.

“This is a big relief. We just want it completed without interference,” one driver said.

Residents warned that if the political interference continues, a future change in government could put the project at risk of abandonment, something they say the community cannot afford.

The Magoase road project is expected to significantly improve transportation, open up economic opportunities, and raise the standard of living for residents. For many, the message is simple: let development lead, and let politics wait.
