National broilers directorate launches national chicken festival at Osu Oxford street

The National Broilers Directorate, under the Ministry of State for Special Initiatives, is set to observe a National Chicken Festival beginning today, December 31, 2025, through to January 1, 2026, at Osu Oxford Street in Accra.

The festival, which has received the endorsement of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, forms part of efforts to promote the government’s Nkoko Nkitinkiti Initiative, aimed at achieving poultry self-sufficiency and strengthening local commerce within the poultry value chain.

Activities kick off tonight with an exciting opening segment, during which members of the public will receive free chicken from midnight to 1:00 a.m.

The first day will also feature live band performances and nonstop music through to 5:00 a.m., creating a festive atmosphere to usher in the New Year.

The celebration continues on January 1, with a full lineup of music performances, entertainment activities, and other attractions designed to engage the public and showcase locally produced poultry.

Organisers say the festival will not only celebrate Ghana’s poultry industry but also encourage citizens to support locally produced chicken as part of national development efforts.
