President John Mahama has reaffirmed government’s commitment to transforming the National Service Authority’s poultry farm at Papao in Accra into a model farm for West Africa.
He said his resolve to develop the facility into a centre of excellence remains firm. The President made the remarks during an inspection tour of the 100,000-bird capacity farm.
“You can be sure we will support you all the way. We will make this a model farm so that people from other West African countries can come and study what the National Service personnel of Ghana and volunteers have achieved here in Papao,” he said.
Although the project is not yet at full capacity, the President expressed satisfaction with progress so far and optimism that the farm would soon reach its full potential.
“This project is designed to hold 100,000 birds, and so far the centre has about 70,000.
That is a very impressive number, and I am certain that soon they will reach full capacity to produce 100,000 birds for the Ghanaian market,” he stressed.
President Mahama further pledged unwavering government support to develop the farm into a centre of excellence.
“I promise to help you develop this poultry farm into a centre of excellence. It will not only be a producing farm but also a training and research farm,” he assured.
He also pledged timely financial support through the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to build a processing plant and other essential facilities.
“I told the Minister of Finance that I was coming on an inspection tour of this farm and shared with him what I had heard about it.
He’s out of the country at the moment, but as soon as he lands, I will bring him here to see the good work you’re doing.
That way, when we request funds for the processing plants, the hostel, the vehicles, and the solar power facilities to boost electricity supply, he will not hesitate to release them,” Mahama assured.
