The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced the registration of Ghanaian children aged 6 to 14 years at all its Premium Centres nationwide.
In a statement signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of Corporate Affairs, the Authority said the exercise aligns with its mandate to register all Ghanaians, both at home and abroad, to build a secure and verifiable National Identity Register.
Parents and guardians are required to pay a fee of GHS 310 per child, the same amount charged for applicants aged 15 and above.
To complete the process, they must present one of the following documents, a valid Ghanaian passport of the child, the child’s original birth certificate, or a Ghana Card belonging to a parent or guardian who can vouch for the child.
From September 15, 2025, the Authority’s online booking and registration platform will extend to all 11 Premium Centres, allowing parents and guardians to schedule appointments in advance to ease congestion and reduce delays.
The NIA indicated that details on the issuance of Ghana Cards for children in this age group will be announced later.
It added that plans are underway to extend the exercise to all NIA District Offices in the coming weeks, making registration more accessible to families beyond the regional capitals.
The Authority described the initiative as a major step toward building a comprehensive and inclusive national identity system that captures Ghanaians from childhood.
