The Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, in collaboration with the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), has arrested one Emmanuel Ofori for operating fake scholarship schemes and defrauding unsuspecting Ghanaians of huge sums of money.
The suspect reportedly posed as an intermediary for the Secretariat, promising to secure scholarships for applicants in exchange for payment.
Registrar of the Scholarships Secretariat, Mr. Alexander Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, confirmed the arrest in a statement, urging the public to be vigilant and rely only on the Secretariat’s official communication channel scholarships.gov.gh.
He said the Secretariat is working closely with the security agencies to ensure the suspect faces prosecution and that justice is served.
Mr. Asafo-Agyei encouraged anyone who may have fallen victim or holds information that could assist investigations to contact the Secretariat via 0302907058, 0302907059, or 0302907051.
“Let us continue working together to expose fraudsters and protect the integrity of our national scholarship system,” he said.
