Parliament approves Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice

Parliament has approved Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the new Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana and head of the Supreme Court.

His approval followed heated debates among Members of Parliament over the legitimacy of his nomination.

The decision was confirmed after a headcount conducted by the Speaker of Parliament, which showed majority support for the nominee despite objections raised by the Minority side.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, a respected Justice of the Supreme Court, is expected to bring his vast judicial experience to bear in strengthening Ghana’s justice system.

He will officially be sworn into office by President John Dramani Mahama in the coming days.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie succeeds Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, whose tenure recently came to an end following a petition presented to the President in September.
