People have given up defending NPP Gov’t due to its incompetence – Suhiyini

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has described the Akufo-Addo government as the government that has pushed Ghanaians into severe hardship in the Fourth Republic.

He said the hardship, stemming from the bad policies of the current government, is palpable such that most Ghanaians cannot afford a three-square meal, swelling hunger and pain among the citizens.

Speaking on Dwaboase on Power FM, the former broadcaster attributed the economic mess to the “incompetence” and profligate spending of the Akufo-Addo government, stressing that the situation has swelled the cost of living in the country.

He argued that the irresponsibility and incompetence of the NPP government has given Ghana its worse cost of living ever, pushing many Ghanaians into poverty.

“It takes legendary cluelessness to bring us to this point,” he stated, adding that ” even the level of resources that they [the NPP Government] had” from donors should have helped fix the eceonomy post COVID era yet officials close to Akufo-Addo misused the funds and left the economy to decline with speed.

Per his estimation, the MP noted that “even people who were trying tomanage the situation” are tired and feel reluctant to defend the government again due to the incompetence of Akufo-Addo and his managers of the economy.

Suhiyini’s comments come on the back of a World Bank report published last year that revealed that about 850,000 Ghanaians were pushed into poverty in 2022 because of rising prices of goods and services.

Although inflation keeps declining and hovering around 25%, most Ghanaians have raised concerns about the cost of food and transport which they say is making cost living high.

Suhiyini believes the Akufo-Addo government’s borrowing spree since it assumed office is also to blame for the hardship that has led to a deterioration in living standards and ultimately, worsened poverty and food insecurity among Ghanaian households.
