Police crack four cases including murder of immigration officer

The Ghana Police Service has achieved a major breakthrough in the murder case of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, along with progress in three other criminal investigations under the Coordination of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Ghanaian authorities are intensifying investigations into the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, who went missing on July 3, 2025.

His charred body was discovered six days later in a gutter near GBC Satellite, Comet Estate.

The main suspect, Bright Aweh, who met Amoah shortly before his disappearance and was initially arrested for kidnapping but has now been formally charged with murder.

Forensic investigations revealed damning evidence at Aweh’s residence, including blood stains, a freshly painted room, and a burnt carpet.

A bloodied fufu pestle, believed to be the murder weapon, was also found nearby. DNA tests are ongoing using samples from the victim’s family.

Aweh is in remand and is expected in Adabraka District Court on August 8, while a police manhunt for accomplices is underway.

The victim’s family is demanding justice and transparency.

In other developments, police recorded major breakthroughs: an armed robbery gang was arrested in Kenyasi; Michael Owusu Ansah, wanted for the 2016 murder of a police officer, was finally apprehended; and in a joint INTERPOL operation, three suspects were arrested in Accra for trafficking stolen Nigerian vehicles, which have since been repatriated.

These cases collectively reflect improved forensics, accountability in security-related crimes, and stronger inter-agency coordination, critical in reinforcing public confidence in Ghana’s law enforcement system.

The Ghana Police Service-led by the CID has delivered major investigative strides across four critical cases.

From detailed forensic handling and DNA profiling in the murder of Immigration Officer Amoah, to dismantling armed robbery networks and resolving long-standing fugitives, the breakthrough reflects enhanced professionalism and stronger enforcement across the law enforcement spectrum.
