The Ghana Police Service through its Accra Regional Command has launched an investigation following a shooting at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono, Tema West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
The shooting incident at the Celebrity Golf Club occurred on Saturday, 18 October 2025, when armed men stormed the golf course area and fired shots indiscriminately, sparking panic.
Police have arrested three suspects, Abubakar Mohammed, 28; Eric Asare, 23; and Felix Darko, 48, who allegedly posed as National Security operatives.
Preliminary investigations indicate they targeted a construction site owned by a club executive, where they reportedly fired weapons and caused property damage.
The attack is believed to be connected to an ongoing land dispute involving parties within the Nungua Traditional Council.
The police said in a statement:
“The Accra Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into a shooting incident that occurred yesterday, 18th October 2025, at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono, Accra. Three persons have so far been arrested in connection with the incident, while efforts are ongoing to arrest any other persons involved. Investigation continues, and further details will be communicated in due course.”
The Command also appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, especially in matters relating to land, and to cooperate with law enforcement as investigations continue.
Authorities have yet to release the full details of the shooting incident, including the identities of those involved and whether any casualties occurred.
The circumstances leading to the escalation of the land dispute are still under investigation. The episode has heightened concerns about the growing influence of land-guards and unauthorized armed groups in land conflicts, particularly in the Greater Accra Region.
While the police response and arrests demonstrate swift action, the incident underscores the need for deeper reforms in land governance to prevent recurring violence at public and private facilities.
