The Ghana Police Service has dismissed reports alleging that its officers raided the residence of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Bono East Regional Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, in Techiman, resulting in the death of a suspect.
In a statement issued on August 2, the Police described the claim as false and misleading, asserting that no such raid was carried out on the said property.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations indicate that on Friday, August 1, 2025, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers from the Bono East Regional Command, acting on intelligence, responded to a robbery in progress involving suspects attempting to scale a wall.
During the operation, one of the suspects, Seidu Bukari, sustained a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Police have since identified him as a known member of a notorious robbery syndicate operating in Techiman and nearby areas, specializing in motorbike theft and resale in Kumasi.
He had also been previously linked to an ongoing robbery investigation at the command.
The Police recovered a motorbike and other robbery implements at the scene.
Investigations suggest the gang had returned to Techiman to commit another robbery when they were intercepted by law enforcement officers.
A manhunt is underway to apprehend the other suspects who managed to flee.
Subsequent checks revealed that the property where the incident occurred belongs to Mr. Ibrahim Baba Bukari, the Bono East Regional Chairman of the NPP.
However, the Police clarified that the operation was not targeted at Mr. Bukari or any political figure.
To ensure transparency and accountability, the Inspector-General of Police has dispatched a special team comprising officers from the CID Headquarters, Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Police Intelligence Directorate to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The Police have urged the public and media to refrain from spreading unverified claims and to allow the investigative process to proceed without interference.
