President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to establishing Ghana as a leading hub for vaccine manufacturing in West Africa.
Speaking at the Ghana Vaccine Manufacturing Investment Forum, President Mahama emphasized the strategic importance of building a resilient health and pharmaceutical ecosystem capable of ensuring national and regional health security.
As part of this renewed focus, the President announced an additional government investment of GHS 50 million into the vaccine manufacturing sector, aimed at accelerating capacity building, research, and production.
“Ghana is not merely looking for financiers, we seek strategic partners who share our vision of health sovereignty and long-term development,” President Mahama stated.
He further urged local pharmaceutical companies to work in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health to scale up the production, procurement, and distribution of made-in-Ghana vaccines.
The forum brought together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, as well as international development partners, all aligned in advancing Ghana’s role in vaccine innovation and self-sufficiency across the sub-region.
