Sampa disturbances: IGP visits injured officers, deploys high-powered delegation and reinforcement teams

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi to check on a police officer who was critically injured during recent violent clashes between two rival groups at Sampa in the Bono Region.

According to the Police, the officer, together with seven others, sustained injuries when the service vehicle they were travelling in came under crossfire from rival factions and veered off the road into a ditch.

No fatalities were recorded. The seven injured officers were treated and discharged, while the critically injured officer was referred to KATH for further medical care.

He is reported to be in stable condition and responding to treatment.

In a swift response, the IGP has deployed a high-powered delegation comprising members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) to Sampa to assess the security situation, visit the discharged officers, and oversee the welfare of personnel deployed to the area.

The delegation will also engage with the Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC), traditional leaders, opinion leaders, youth groups, and other key stakeholders to help restore calm and ensure lasting peace in the community.

Meanwhile, reinforcement teams made up of officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) have been deployed to intensify patrols and beef up security in Sampa and surrounding communities.
